There are 20,000 injuries in high school football each year; 12 percent of the injuries permanently disable the victims and are injuries to the neck or head, most critics blame the helmet.
Thirteen youths died last year. Thirty-five percent of the injuries were at the neck or the head, disabling many. This is exactly what happened to sixteen year old Pete Stenhoff, 16, a junior at Chula Vista High School in Redmond, California. His senior year he was hurt when he rammed his head into the ball carriers chest
Stenhoff cracked his vertebrae in his spine and is now confined to a wheel chair for life. He now weighs 172 after being 210 pounds. Although he is confined to a wheelchair he is not a bitter person and is trying to get his diploma by taking correspondence courses since he was not able to graduate with his class. He still says "I knew the risks involved when I decided to play football," and adds, "I wish I would have known just how bad it could be."

Reread my blog post on focus story structure and look at the examples.
The point is to humanize a story on an issue or trend by focusing on an individual who's dealing with that issue/trend in your lead, then talking about the larger issue/trend. You've got it backwards here. Try again.
