Top News Story Week 3

O.J. Simpson ordered held without bail

I have not heard much about O.J. Simpson in a while until this news article. He was accused of two counts of robbery with a deadly weapon, two counts of assault with a deadly weapon, conspiracy to commit a crime and burglary with a firearm, police said. The district attorney, meanwhile, said he expected Simpson to ultimately be charged with seven felonies and one gross misdemeanor. O.J. stated “an auction house owner Tom Riccio called him several weeks ago to say some collectors were selling some of his items. Riccio set up a meeting with collectors under the guise that he had a private collector interested in buying Simpson's items.” Overall the story is not clear because police are still investigating.

The story has timeliness because it is recent and just happened today. The story also has prominence because if this had happened to an ordinary citizen it wouldn’t be as important. Also since O.J. Simpson had been in the news a lot in the past because of being accused of murder this story was more prominent because if he does anything that is controversial he is now gong to be seen as a criminal to many people in the public eye. The story also has conflict because there are too many allegations going on.

Good analysis of news values. I'd add "unusualness/novelty," though, because it's a pretty weird situation.
